🗺 Open the interactive Faial map
Faial is the “blue island”, named for the hydrangea hedges that line its roads in summer. Sailors crossing the Atlantic stop at Horta’s marina and leave painted murals for luck, then gather at Peter Café Sport. At the western tip, the Capelinhos volcano erupted in 1957–58 and left a lunar landscape you can walk across.
